Former S Korean president appeals for inter-Korean summit
2007-05-20 00:00

SEOUL, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung appealed on Sunday for a second inter-Korean summit to resolve the nuclear issues on the Korean peninsula.

"We have to take the lead and speak to the North (the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, or DPRK) about its nuclear test, and that is one of the reasons why we need to hold a South-North Korean summit," South Korea's Yonhap News Agency quoted Kim as saying.

Kim made the remarks when meeting with former Gyeonggi Province governor Sohn Hak-kyu, Yonhap said.

Kim visited Pyongyang in June 2000 when he was working as South Korean president. He and South Korean top leader Kim Jong-il held the first-ever Inter Korean Summit during the visit and signed on a joint declaration with Kim Jong-il.
